Most Challenging Technical Problem I’ve Solved

One of the most challenging technical problems I solved was during an ERP implementation for a manufacturing client where revenue recognition, cost allocation, and multi-entity consolidation had to be automated across different business units.

The issue was that the company relied on manual spreadsheets for allocating costs, managing deferred revenues, and consolidating multi-subsidiary financials. This caused frequent discrepancies, delayed closings, and audit exposure. The complexity increased because the company had both subscription-based SaaS revenues and manufacturing cost allocations, which needed to comply with ASC 606, GAAP, and IFRS standards simultaneously.

My Approach:

  • Requirement Mapping – Collaborated with finance, tax, and IT teams to define performance obligations for SaaS contracts and map complex cost drivers in manufacturing.

  • ERP Customization – Configured NetSuite and SAP S/4HANA modules to automate deferred revenue recognition, standard costing, and intercompany eliminations.

  • Data Migration & Cleansing – Built scripts to migrate five years of historical data, reconciling ledgers and aligning reporting structures.

  • Automation of Reporting – Designed dashboards in Power BI and Tableau for recurring revenue KPIs (ARR, MRR, churn) and cost variance analysis.

  • Audit Readiness – Implemented real-time documentation and audit trails, which reduced external auditor adjustments by 40%.

Outcome:

  • Close cycle reduced by 35% (from 15 days to under 10).

  • Revenue recognition accuracy increased by 30%, with full compliance under ASC 606.

  • Cost reporting improved by 25%, giving executives real-time insights into profitability and cash flow.

  • Achieved scalability — the system supported multi-entity consolidation across subsidiaries with minimal manual intervention.

This problem was technically demanding because it required deep knowledge of accounting standards, ERP systems, and data analytics, but it became one of my most rewarding achievements since it streamlined compliance, saved significant costs, and positioned the company for faster growth.
