We have been asked by a client in Indianapolis, IN to help them find an Accounting Manager. In this role, you will oversee multi-state payroll tax filings, lead a small accounting team, drive process improvements, and serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies. You’ll be part of a dynamic team supporting a growing Certified Professional Employer Organization (CPEO).
What will you do as an Accounting Manager?
Payroll Tax Compliance Manager
Ensure accurate and timely remittance of tax payments and wage reports
Manage preparation, review, and filing of state withholding and unemployment insurance tax returns
Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and update compliance procedures
Conduct regular audits of payroll data to identify and resolve discrepancies
Coordinate with payroll, client services, and finance teams to ensure accurate employee tax data
Accounting Team Leader
Train, supervise, and support accounting staff responsible for tax preparation and account maintenance
Develop and maintain internal controls and process documentation
Oversee tax registration and de-registration for client onboarding/offboarding
Process Improvement Specialist
Identify inefficiencies and implement streamlined procedures
Contribute to strategic planning and process improvements
Ensure accuracy and efficiency in tax operations
Regulatory Liaison
Serve as point of contact for tax agencies, auditors, and consultants
Manage relationships and resolve compliance issues
Support client audits and prepare required documentation
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll tax data
Assist with special projects, reconciliations, or other payroll/accounting-related tasks as needed
What qualifications will you have as an Accounting Manager?
High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred (CPA or CPP a plus)
Minimum 5 years of payroll tax experience, especially in state withholding and unemployment compliance
Experience in a PEO or multi-state payroll environment strongly preferred
In-depth knowledge of state tax regulations and multi-state filing
Familiarity with tax filing platforms and payroll systems (e.g., ADP, PrismHR, MasterTax)
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and relevant software
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
High level of integrity and confidentiality

Job Description
Assistant Controller
We are seeking an Assistant Controller to work alongside the Regional Controller. The Assistant Controller will play a key role in accounting and finance activities across all three sites. The Assistant Controller will connect finance processes with operations, provide guidance to the plant staff with reporting and analysis tools, perform and review journal entries and account reconciliations in accordance with company policy, partner with sales to provide clarity into actual margins, and assist the Controller with forecasting and budgeting. This is a great opportunity to learn and become a key part of the accounting team.
Job Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively to complete monthly closing activities, create and review journal entries in accordance with company policy, and work to meet deadlines associated with closing
Ensure accuracy of financial statements by being a compliance leader for the business
Perform and review monthly account reconciliations and verify balances are consistent with GAAP and Policy
Work with Controller to establish priorities and identify opportunities for improvement
Work with engineering and operations to manage capital projects and complete required documentation for corporate reporting
Review inventory balances, create analysis tools for variances to standard, monitor inventory for excess & obsolescence, and partner with operations when asked to assist with inventory planning activities
Coordinate with internal and external auditors to ensure efficient reviews of financial data
Assist with annual standard cost rolls and physical inventory counts across the three sites
Assist Controller in annual budget process
Work to support commercial activities by providing clarity into actual margins and set accurate pricing
Complete special projects and ad hoc analysis as requested
Be able to travel on a limited basis
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in either accounting or Finance with a strong understanding of US GAAP/Financial Accounting
Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience, preferably with some management experience within an accounting/finance department (manufacturing experience, while not required, is a plus)
Adaptive to change and is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
Experience with standard costing
Proficient in Microsoft Excel
Must possess strong communication skills to interact with leadership and various departments
Interested in learning Controlling and FP&A activities
